Appearance

Jack is pretty, bottom-line, and he is very aware of it. His pale skin is for the most part flawless (he'll flip his shit if he spots the tiniest of blemishes on his face) and his hair is kept a vibrant red he is prepared to pay through the nose for. He tends to take after his father's side of the family: tall, lithe and cursed with a nose that's just slightly too big. To Jack, it's a curse. It's his only apparent physical flaw, after all.

(He never talks about the scar on his arm and tries to keep it covered most of the time.)

As in all things, he dresses flaboyantly and in the highest fashion. Some people say he looks crazy; Jack says he looks 'couture'. Bright reds, yellows, oranges and pinks are his favorites, but he's been known to dress in all black or white to make a statement. He can almost always be caught in some kind of cardigan (short-sleeved or a sweater-vest if it's warm outside). It's a good kind of fuzzy, he insists.

Not one to buff himself up, Jack works out at least three times a week, but carefully limits himself to exercises which reduce fat, not build muscle. He likes to keep that hip, starving artist look.

Thankfully, Jack looks older than his 15 years. It helps him sneak into clubs and snags him older lovers, but that doesn't stop him from whining about hooooow ooooooold he looks, can you believe he's only eighteen? Sigh and wink.

Background

The struggle over Jack started when he was just a baby. Named by his father, looked after constantly by his mother, his perfection was just about the only thing his parents could agree on. About a year after he was born, they split up on terrible terms, his mother gaining almost complete custody over Jack. The first move she made was to legally change his name to match hers, to try to erase any memory of her ex-husband. Jack's mother relocated the small family to Strauss, where they have lived to this day.

When Jack was six and finally learning to savor his mother's complete adoration, she remarried, this time to a local doctor, Carl Johnston. Jack resented his stepfather at first, but came to tolerate him. The man practically broke his own back trying to win the boy over, after all, he had to be worth something.

Through his childhood and early adolescence, Jack devoted his time to getting as many people to adore him as possible. Drama, school, art... He did it all for the praise. Around the time he turned 13, however, he decided that trying just wasn't cool. He'd do what he wanted for himself, fuck everyone else. This change directly coincided with his first boyfriend, who he more hero-worshipped than loved. The relationship didn't last very long, but changed him irreparably. His need for attention had learned to hide itself.

Just before being accepted to Second Heaven, Jack experienced being dumped for the first time. A girl, one of the few he'd condescend to date, trampled over his heart just when he was beginning to really get interested. For her ex-boyfriend! It hurt. It hurt more that she was one of his half-sister, EunKyung's friends and that she's taken to teasing him all the time about his one failure! It's forced him to moon over his lost love, who never meant that much to him, and cursing his sister as a heartless bitch! Not that he'd ever call her that.

Hopefully, Second Heaven will mend his broken heart. After all, cute uniforms and cute seniors have never failed to lift his spirits before.

Personality:

As one who prides himself on always saying exactly what he feels (even if it's not what he means to say...), Jack is known to be something of... a bitch. He doesn't mean to be, but he comes off as catty when he's only trying to be a straight-shooter. He focuses his attention heavily on appearance, though he'd never admit it, which is where the catty edge comes in. If he thinks someone's done something amazing, he'll tell them, after all. But as his standards are rather high, this doesn't happen a lot.

Jack also doesn't like to take crap, which sometimes causes him to preemptively start shit with other people. Defensive and almost totally blind to his own faults, his primary method of ending conflict is to toss out some harsh words he doesn't mean, run away and then come back apologizing on his hands and knees. Most people accept the tactic, and it's usually employed in half-sincerity...

He does have a decent sense of humor, droll more than anything else. His jokes aren't always the best, but he's sharp when it comes to figuring out other people's. Jack also does care deeply for the people in his life, his family, friends, current and ex-SOs. He's one of those types who writes his ex's, listens to their problems, tries to support them in spite of whatever passed between them. The boy almost literally has no idea what jealousy is. People are just too fragile to depend on one person, he thinks. So jealousy rarely factors into his behavior.

Decently intelligent, but more dedicated than anything else, Jack does well in school. His family places little pressure on him, instead stressing that he emotionally center himself, cultivate self-esteem and look for someone to love. (He doesn't understand his parents, either.) Instead, Jack does well in school because he's terrified of failure. Anything that remotely smells of humiliation, he shies away from, happier to pass up opportunities than bruise his precious ego.
